A wise entrepreneur is not simply someone with a high IQ (intelligence quotient) but also possesses many other special personality traits and qualities.
Speaker, author, and psychologist Sherrie Campbell says: “IQ is a fixed indicator over time, while the core of wisdom is self-awareness and acuity. In addition to experience and intellect, a wise person is always ready to ‘fight’ and knows how to handle problems skillfully.”
According to Sherrie Campbell, wisdom is a combination of the following personality traits/qualities, and every entrepreneur can train to accumulate them:
1. Trusting intuition
Wise entrepreneurs don’t just rely on surface-level facts; they also know how to listen to and follow their intuition. Intuition helps them recognize the motives of others, enabling them to make the right decisions in choosing partners, projects, and potential customers.
2. Being self-aware
Wise people always understand their position and behavioral tendencies in every situation. They are aware of their strengths, weaknesses, value systems, and beliefs. They know that the more self-aware a person is, the easier it is to understand others.
3. Learning and drawing experience from the past
Wise entrepreneurs are not bound by the past, but they always look back on past events to build on correct thinking or learn from wrong decisions.
4. Being creative
Wise entrepreneurs are never satisfied with a certain level of development for their products/services, themselves, or their business. They always welcome new ideas and desire change and improved work efficiency. Wise entrepreneurs believe that stepping out of their comfort zone is a mandatory factor for success.
5. Having an open mind
Wise entrepreneurs see their minds like a parachute; it works best when it’s open. When needing to solve a problem, they are willing to listen to many different viewpoints, thereby establishing an action strategy in a new and effective way.
6. Being agile
Quickly recognizing opportunities that must be seized immediately is an advantage of a wise entrepreneur. Hesitation and missing opportunities are not their habits.
7. Being resourceful in all situations
Thanks to a wide network of relationships, whenever a need for any type of resource arises (information, personnel, training programs…), wise entrepreneurs know exactly where to go. Therefore, they always find the optimal solution to achieve their goals.
8. Being independent
Blindly trusting the opinions of experts is not a habit of wise entrepreneurs. They always ask deeper questions to find their own ‘truth’ and use it to outline new strategies.
9. Being eager to learn
Wise entrepreneurs always make the most of their mental capacity by constantly learning. They regularly gather information from various sources like books, newspapers, magazines… to enrich their knowledge and skills. For them, learning is never something too difficult or boring; on the contrary, it is always useful and interesting.
10. Taking a lighthearted approach to problems
Never over-dramatizing problems is a characteristic of a wise entrepreneur. They even have the ability to find the humorous side of an issue to feel happy and comfortable while finding a solution. As a result, they succeed more easily and are always satisfied with life.
11. Being a risk-taker
Wise entrepreneurs are always ready to try new things because they believe that even if the results are not as expected, the experience gained will be useful in some way. In business, wise entrepreneurs often take risks to do things that many others are hesitant about. And that risk-taking is often rewarded handsomely.
12. Believing in themselves
Without needing others to help with decision-making, wise entrepreneurs know who they are and have faith in themselves. They don’t wish for or wait for change; they act to create change.
13. Writing goals down
Writing is the first step in the process of realizing the goals, visions, and dreams of wise entrepreneurs.
14. Having a tendency to share
Wise entrepreneurs are always ‘generous’ in sharing knowledge, information, and secrets to success with others. They are always enthusiastic mentors, helping others to become better. Through this exchange process, their own knowledge and skills are also continuously expanded.
15. Always being conscious of self-renewal
Stagnation or inertia is something no wise entrepreneur can accept. They crave development and are always ready to change their image, brand, logo, company name, operational direction… if necessary.
