Difficulties pile up for businesses

Vietnamese businesses are heavily affected by the pandemic.

According to the Business Registration Management Agency of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, in the first 7 months of the year, nearly 80,000 businesses had to temporarily suspend their operations, cease activities pending dissolution procedures, or complete dissolution. This figure has increased by more than 25% compared to the same period in 2020. In Ho Chi Minh City alone, 23,199 businesses had to withdraw from the market, accounting for 29.1% of the national total.

The above figures show the strong impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the Vietnamese business community today, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises. In the context of the pandemic, businesses operating with traditional methods have faced many difficulties. Some, unable to find remote work solutions, have seen their entire business operations come to a standstill. Others have struggled with managing people, work processes, and more.

In this context, the need to apply technology in business operations and customer acquisition is an inevitable direction. Especially during this period, refining the organizational structure, and standardizing and digitizing business processes should be a top priority.

A golden opportunity for digital transformation

When working remotely, managers often encounter situations such as: a heavy workload but employees lack responsibility and frequently pass tasks to one another; leaders and employees often forget or miss tasks, leading to delays in plans and schedules; a lack of tools to track and measure work performance in each process or project, etc. This leads to a situation where revenue targets are not met, and businesses have to cut labor in various ways. At the same time, the workforce also feels confused, their morale is disrupted, and they worry about the future of their jobs.

Many experts believe that digitization is one of the important tools to help businesses eliminate the aforementioned problems. This is not just a trend but a “survival” choice for every business. Digital transformation expert Le Viet Thang, CEO of Workway Joint Stock Company, said: “Businesses in directly affected sectors such as aviation, tourism, transportation… have had to ‘stand still’ because there is no other way. Other businesses are forced to be flexible and adapt to the times. However, we are in a very challenging context, and we do not know when the pandemic will end. Therefore, why not proactively find solutions and prepare response scenarios to strengthen the resilience of the business right now?”.

Accordingly, expert Le Viet Thang also stated that if businesses are usually busy with business goals and the daily grind, this is the golden opportunity for all businesses to refine their structure, apply technology to their operations, and especially solve the remote work (Work from home) problem in the face of the adversity caused by Covid-19.
